Just a few years ago, David Peri, Mike Scanlan and Leo Bergin teamed up to do what had never been done before; and today that risk has proven to be well worth it.
A long-time lettuce grower from Salinas, California, Mike had recently been working with Leo growing potatoes in Yerington, Nevada. Across the valley David Peri had been successfully growing, packing and shipping premium onions for 30 years. As fate would have it, the three men met and a new idea began to take root; why not try growing premium organic leafy greens in Northern Nevada? With Leo's support, Mike's extensive experience growing lettuce and David's expert knowledge of growing produce in Nevada, as well as the resources his company, Peri & Sons Farms' could offer, Nevada Fresh Pak took off in a new and fresh direction.
The team first planted just 500 acres of leafy greens. Fortunately David had already been growing a line of premium organic onions on this land, so the extensive preparation, documentation, testing and certification necessary to grow USDA Certified Organic produce—measures that can take years to accomplish—had already been completed allowing them to move forward quickly.
Today, Nevada Fresh Pak has become a successful grower/harvester with over 1,400 acres committed to organic leafy-greens production, and our business is growing.
